Priorities

Sonja: Priority One - Food! There are many grocery chains in town that cater to vegans and vegetarians, and also offer gluten free and organic local produce. My favorite store is Denn's, where I stashed up on vege spreads from Zwergenwiese (Midgets Meadow) and many other healthy and hearty goodies. I was in vegan heaven, and pleasantly surprised to discover that the specialty food items over here were in the price range of normal groceries in Vancouver.

Priority Two - We need a vehicle. My mother in-law was kind enough to provide us with four wheels (a Toyota IQ) but we feel the need of a bit more independence and flexibility. With those two keywords, the term 'scooter' sprung to mind, and soon you would find us browsing nearby Vespa dealers.
I was tempted to buy one of those retro looking LML Star 4T 200, the Vespa PX's handsome cousin from India. Contrary to the Italian Diva the Star comes as a four stroke model. I haven't made any decision just yet. Stay tuned for an update on this topic in the near future...

Priority Three: The bare necessities! With most of my shoes packed up in a container and not in close reach I did what every smart woman does... go shopping! I am a tough customer though, as I rather not buy products from low cost countries, sold for ridiculous margins. However, I indeed found a couple of pairs (make that four) that were made in Austria and Germany!
And after, the hubby's patience got rewarded with an original Italian thin crust pizza and an Apfelschorle (what looks like wine is apple juice with carbonated mineral water).

The other stuff (non-prioritized): The following days will be filled with jumping through the hoops of Teutonic bureaucracy (bureau-crazy) in order to get registered, get health care, apply for a tax number, set up a business (for potential freelance work), swap the Canadian driver's license and lastly... look for work...

    1. Thanks, Martha. Since I have become intolerant to mostly everything (gluten, dairy etc.) food has become a major thing in my life ;-)
So far returning to Germany feels ok but I am still waiting for reality to kick in.

  3. A 200cc, manual shift scooter? Sounds wonderful!

I like the priorities list, work is where it belongs...

    1. It is tempting, Richard. I always was a fan shift scooters. But who knows, maybe one fine day I'll have a garage and can try restoring a real vintage model... one can dream.

  4. I have the strong feeling that Roland is going to re-claim his GTS250, and I'd really love to have a scooter for myself. It would be nightmare-ish to try and negotiate the Harley through urban traffic... however, I guess I just miss two wheels...

  6. You sure have been busy but it looks like you are settling in and having fun.

For the last two months I have participated in a vegan food package swap. The first time I was paired with a lady in Belgium and last month one in Germany so I have actually tried the Zwergenwiese. Both sent me little mini pks of it. So yummy. I am jealous of all your tasty vegan options.

  7. Great to see you settling in. At least you aren't having two consecutive winters with your move like we did when we emigrated to NZ!!
    Take care....

    1. Geoff, it very much helps to relocate during spring time. The weather is fair, and the flowers blooming. It helps.
