If we were to live in London, Notting Hill would be one of our favorites. The district is located in a fairly quiet part of the city, and comes across a bit bohemian by accident. A cheap working class area to live in the olden days, but fairly nouveau-riche today after its gentrification.
There is a street flea market on Portobello Road with over a 1,000 dealers, and an abundance of antiques shops and art stores, boutiques, restaurants, cafes, and delis, too.
You won't find stuff 'made in China', and even the china is mostly 'made in UK'. We were glad that we didn't have any free space left in our luggage, otherwise this stroll along the flea market would have been one costly event.
Roland browsing records (past century analog sound storage medium mostly for music, pressed in vinyl).
How to make a wall look nice!
Petite stores for small businesses.
Who says, a garage (body shop) can't be pretty?
Peeking into a residential street.
Colourful facades.

Doors in purple or pink? Who cares!
Booster juice and colour boost.
Things that made the British cuisine famous, NOT! Pie & Mash & Eels - Glad to be vegan!
Where to park your Vespa? Next to your table of course!
What a lovely area! When can we move in?
I LOVE the Morris Minor(?) at the front door! And the sunny day shining on the wonderful colorful townhouses and streets! Really nice photos. Like being there.
ReplyDeleteNot a Morris, but an older Fiat 500. Thanks Martha, for sticking around.
Delete"You won't find stuff "made in China" ..... ahhhhh that must be like heaven or even better!
ReplyDeleteWell, most of it is old a.k.a. antique so chances are the stuff had indeed been manufactured in Europe. Isn't that lovely?
DeleteWow, that's a side to London that you don't see in the movies and tv shows. It's so bright and colorful and looks like it was fun. It must have been so hard not to buy anything ... Or everything!
ReplyDeleteOr everything... I would love to add some of the items to my collection.
DeleteWhat a beautiful area. I love the shot of the houses and the description of a "record".
ReplyDeleteThese days I only know one person who still has a record player. Everybody else is listening to DVDs or iPod.
DeleteI wanna go! I wanna go!
ReplyDeleteThat just looks like such a quaint neighborhood. I can imagine walking around the streets for hours soaking up the colors and culture.
Thank you for sharing the pictures.
I am sure you would like it. Glad you enjoyed the pics.
DeleteSome of those row houses remind me of San Francisco! Looks like a nice area, though a bit crowded for me.... ;)
ReplyDeleteKeep those pictures and narrative coming!
dom
Yes, there is some similarity except those buildings are likely brick and stone, not sure about the ones in San francisco.
DeleteLooks like you are having a great time! Have fun!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, Sergei. We'll do our best ;-)
