Allons-y, Alonzo!

Sonja: Look, what followed me home. As a matter of fact Roland had meticulously scouted the interweb for a while until he had found this exact orange scooter, and driving by this specific Piaggio dealership and its subsequent discovery was not a fluke but merely clever planning on his side.

He meant to reclaim Bella, his dragon red Vespa GTS 250 anyway which is currently shipping over the Atlantic Ocean (hopefully not getting seasick), and decided to buy this handsome orange scooter for me, since I was missing Paolo, my daring plum Vespa Granturismo GT200 very much.

World, here I come, I am mobile again. I have freedom on two wheels again.

Of course we picked the rainiest day of the month to pick up the handsome, flashy orange Vespa GTS300 SuperSport, and when I started him up the first thing that crossed my mind was an expression featured in Dr Who: Allons-y, Alonzo (Let's go, Alonzo!).

Well, and that's how the scooter got his name, meet... ALONZO.
Screw the rain, I am going to ride in summer gear: Leather jacket protected by hi-viz rain jacket, Kevlar jeans & gloves, jet helm & goggles plus scooter boots. Oh boy, was I well watered after, but I made it.
Although the 50 km through torrential rain rather felt like 500 km, I was a very wet but very happy camper, when I arrived at my mother-in-law's parkade where the scooter will live until we have found a permanent home.
As this is not the kind of mobility scooter you usually get to see in an assisted living residence the neighbours meanwhile must have come to think that the old lady has gone nuts.

  1. WOW! Your wish is my command! Good for you!

What's the car behind you in the 2nd photo?

    1. That's a cool little car. I've never paid any attention before. Think I could get a lawn mower, tools, shrubs, groceries and paving stones in that thing all at once?

I use to have a Honda Fit. Wonder how it compares.

    2. It's a Scion here. And of course I was joking re all the stuff fitting. I like it.

    3. The Honda Fit is BIG compared to the IQ/Scion but we have transported 2 guest bed mattresses (rolls) with it and we like the small turn radius.

  2. Pretty cool to arrange the "accidental discovery". And the nane does seem to fit well. How much longer before your container arrives?

    1. The container is expected to arrive beginning of June, then it goes through customs, and has to be stored until we have found a permanent home.

    1. Roland was certainly partially driven by the desire to get his Bella back...

    1. He started scouting even before we left Canada, he must have been quite determined. Hope the weather improves soon to go out for a ride.

  7. Way to go Sonja, it looks great! But won't the Harley be jealous??

    1. Geoff, my scoot and the Harley will live in peaceful coexistence. Every bike has its own purpose, and my Harley has a few orange features too (ok, the seams of the seat, but there could be more one day...)

  8. Sonja, so, so, so, cool. My first Vespa ride also left me drenched and thoroughly happy. There is no better way to get around a city (or the surrounding countryside) and on a Vespa. Good for you. It's fascinating to me (though not really surprising) that Roland wants his GTS back after his affair with the Burgie.

    1. Yep, happiness ensured from the moment I started him up. The Burgie got sold to pay for the passage of Bella ;-)

  9. I'm glad that you are living again Sonja!

All that talk of Audis had me worried.

What's the weather going to be like this weekend? I'm in Wi and thinking of a bike ride up the the Rhein to Bennos...

    1. Audi serves a purpose too, I hope the weather will improve but currently it is non-stop raining and too cold for this time of the year.

  10. Alonzo is a great shade of orange! I look forward to photos of he and you out and about.... Will you just do city riding or are long trips in the works as well?

    1. Dom, you know that you had inspired me to buy an orange colored two-wheeler... Yes, we also have longer trips in the works depending on how much time we will be off work.

  11. Oh, how wonderful! Orange is a perfect color for a Vespa. Good on Roland. And as Dom has proven again and again, orange is very photogenic color. Enjoy!
