(D) Benrath Castle. Pretty in Pink!
This pleasure palace is fairly young compared to the previously visited castles. It was founded in the 18th century, and has a huge garden and a pond.
It's style is Rococo, hence the color, and the playful arrangements of statues and the artificial lake.
Nothing in the park was left to chance, and was allowed to grow as it pleased. Everything was designed to oblige to symmetry.
The complex consists of three buildings which are arranged around the pond. Today they are housing the museum, which had already closed for the day when we arrived.
We grabbed some ice cream (make that sorbet for Sonja), and strolled through the park while the sun was fading.
Benrath is close to the river Rhine, and so we spent the rest of the evening promenading up and down the river.
A perfect ending for a perfect day.All castles have something special. One brings the Middle Ages to live, another one is surrounded by a medieval town, one is a moated castle with marvelous gardens, and the latter is well, pink. Our favourite is for sure Dyck castle. Which one did you like the most?
