Into the Woods

The other day we had the most beautiful weather and decided to go for a short walk through the forest. What a good idea, as we had the most beautiful light! Luckily I had brought my camera to capture a bit of the magic!

  5. Nice photos, but I'm amazed at how clean the forest floor is, not wilderness-like at all.

    1. Back in the early 80s, while a young LT with the US Army in Germany, I marveled at how accurate our maps were in terms of depicting the edges of German forests. I later learned that people called forstmeisters (sp?) existed, kind of like our forest rangers but they "maintain" their assigned forests, so not really surprised at the tidiness you see in the pictures.

The trees also gave me the impression it was a "young" forest, perhaps a planned one?

    2. Maybe not a planned one, but very likely a harvested and re-planted one. When we were walking we heard some motor saws in the distance, so probably there was some harvesting going on somewhere. You will hardly find wilderness in Germany, pretty much every square meter of our country is utilized in some kind of way. So there is no comparison to North American forests!

  6. How stunning! Are you sure you did not see any elves passing by on their horses? Your pics look perfect for such scenery.

And yes, German forests are more like parks. Very tidy. This is what a Canadian friend of ours once said. ;-)
