The Northwestern Highlands - Part 2

June 16: After another excellent breakfast that lasted until late afternoon we ventured into northwesterly direction towards the picturesque fishery town of Ullapool. Again traffic was light, and the sights marvelous. Again we were spoiled by vistas of lochs (lakes), bens (peaks) and gorgeous ocean views.
We really didn't have an agenda for the day, and just followed the road hugging the shore until we had to head eastwards again towards hour home base in Inverness.
Most of the places remained nameless for us except where we took the time to wander around a bit longer. Ullapool is a sweet little town, and one of the few larger settlements in the Highlands. It relies on the fishing industry, tourism and the ferry business to the Outer Hebrides (Western Islands).
Although quite popular with the tourists the town remains unspoiled. There are a handful of cafes and tea houses, also selling some tidbits or books but that's about it.
We continued our day's journey along the coast and through the Highlands, every so often stopping for some photo ops.
Of course these roads are perfect for motorcycling...
 Here's another one...
And off we went thinking again of how much fun it would be to travel on two wheels...

    1. Yes, and surprisingly they have four legs and are quite hairy.

  4. Such beautiful views. I don't think that view would ever get old. Well, maybe if it was under snow, but even then that is what roaring fires and a good whiskey are for.

  5. We fell in love with that land after some intimate time with Hamish MacBeth. Your photos and story truly do it justice Sonja.
