Martha, the fireworks are everywhere on New Year's Eve. It is a tradition to have fireworks as it chases the bad spirits away. A few days before New Year you can buy fireworks (it is not legal for the rest of the year), so almost everybody does. German skies are just one big firework for 15 minutes!
You would not be able to sleep here. The fireworks are quite loud. Plus - as a satirical German website put it - "95% of all German men let off early", so no sleep before midnight!
Happy New Year! You stayed up late, 00:15...
ReplyDeleteYes, quite late for an old man :-)
DeleteHappy New Year to you two! What a treat to have the fireworks so near!
