Riding in January / Rediscovering my old Nikon

Roland: For pretty much the same reason that the Eastern part of North America has an extremely cold winter this year, Germany enjoys the mildest winter in a very long time. The last few days temperatures in our area reached up to 16 degrees Celsius (60 F), and there is no cold front in sight (yet). Therefore we are happy that our Vespa scooters are insured and registered all year, and we use every opportunity to show them the Black Forest landscapes. So after the morning fog had lifted we wrapped ourselves into 4 layers of clothing (no THAT warm today!), headed to our garage and went for a ride!
Recently I realized that it had been years since I used my 'old' Nikon D70 camera, so I decided to give it another try. Unfortunately my only lenses are relatively low quality Sigma lenses, but they will have to do for a start. Maybe I will get a high quality 50mm Nikkor lens later, you can get them for around 100 € today.
So here are my first humble attempts at getting used to my old camera again. I am not a good photographer and will have to learn a lot until I shoot some decent photos, but anyway I will give it a try. And y'all will have to suffer :-)

  1. Sadly, I don't drag out my two good cameras very often. The way I use my camera- too often- it has to be pocketable and OK to drop. Does not apply to my good cameras!

I like your photos very much. As always, you and Sonja take wonderful photos.

  2. I think you did just fine with that camera Roland, and the pictures are nice. Love the one of the wooly cow.

Glad you've had some warm temps and have been able to ride. We've been drenched with rain and high winds the last week.

    1. We actually met the Lady who owns the herd, and she told us that this is a Scottish Highland cattle, or "Highlander". Unfortunately there can only be one, and the nice guy on the photo is getting too old for breeding purposes, so he will lose his head pretty soon...

  3. Nice photos. My favorite is the one with the scooters in the foreground. The D70 has more lens options than some of the newer entry level Nikon DSLRs. I have the D60 and the auto-focus motor is in the lens instead of the body which seems to eliminate support for some of the older auto-focus lenses.

    1. Interesting! I read about the D60 not being compatible to all lens, and I was wondering what this was about. Is there an actual advantage in having the Auto-Focus motor in the lens?

    2. It makes it so the body is smaller as there isn't a focusing motor. But it makes all of the lenses larger and heavier....

    1. She is so cute, we were thinking of taking her home with us. But this would have exceeded the loading capacity of our Vespas...
