Living a Cat's Life

Sonja: While Roland is working away from dusk til dawn (well it's not that bad, really) I enjoy the perks of being unemployed: I sleep in, read books, surf the net (as far as this is possible with the crappy connection). On a side note I clean and do dishes and laundry, too of course... sometimes.
And like any cat I pretty much do whatever I feel like, be it cloud watching or taking a nap in the middle of the day (because watching clouds go by is making me sooo sleepy).
I also stroll around to get to know my environment, and get to meet some people, such as my real estate agents, the lady from the book store (also born in Northern Germany, like me), or I just engage in chatting with the shopkeepers while shopping for groceries, delicatessen or clothing.
The stereotype German might give the impression to be a bit reserved, even to a point bordering on rudeness. In this area of the Black Forest however people are extraordinarily friendly and helpful, almost as nice as Canadians I dare say.
In the early days besides being used as energy source to drive a variety of mills, the rivers and streams where used to float down lumber. Again a lovely reminder of Canada.
Gotcha! While I am sitting in my favourite cafe (free wifi!) sipping at my tea and enjoying a fluffy fruit cake...
... I watched the local police on a secret mission: a donut cake run.
Hello Officer!

If you were looking for some coherent deep thoughts in this post, I am so sorry to disappoint you. Right now there is not much more for me to do than waiting... for a place we can call home, for a job and for my Vespa scooter.

    1. It's a bit odd. I am afraid I could get used to it.

  2. I'm finding that the deep thoughts in this post are more than adequate....enjoy The Peaceful Sonja!

I'll have to find out from the family which part of Germany we Steffenhagen's are from.

    1. Thanks, Coop. Your name is not an unusual German name. Old names are often related to where people came from. Could it be that your people come from Steffenshagen, a municipality in the Rostock district, in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern?

  3. Ah yes, the life of a cat... Enjoy the freedom to relax and let the world go by! To really enjoy it, you need someone to wait on you 24/7... Cute cat, is it yours?

    1. Alas, not my cat. Just one of the many barn cats roaming around our holiday home. This one was by far the prettiest, and we got to 'talk'.

  4. Enjoy it while you can! The fruit cake looks pretty interesting, is it a fruit topping or dried fruits baked into the cake?

It looks like a beautiful area to explore. Where is the new Vespa?

    1. All fresh local fruit: redcurrant.

The Vespa is still in mom-in-law's garage, 400 odd klicks away from here.

    1. To admit it, I only had the fruit some redcurrant mixed with blackcurrant, Roland took care of the rest, fluffy layers of bisquit cake and cream.

  7. Just said to hubby this morning that a cat's life must be just wonderful when I looked at our inherited kitty cat, eating, sleeping, exploring ... If I could come back as a cat ... fine with me!! Then I read your post ... Enjoy it to the fullest!

  8. Cats really do have it good don't they.

Well not as good as you because they don't get to eat that devine looking cake.

    1. True, but cats are gourmets as well, in their way. I assume Basil would agree.

    1. Why didn't you come sooner? It only stopped raining yesterday.

  10. Retirement mode, that's what it feels like. I guess I'm a bit young for this though.
