Their food
Their scenery
How they find parking space everywhere
The window shopping...
...that never ends
Their wildlife
Their scooter parking
Their parking skills
How they create beauty even in the tiniest spots
How they mourn their deceased ones
The beauty of their vehicles
The beauty of their women (and the fact that they know about it)
Their capability to turn a giant Oops into a giant attraction
That there is always time for a chat
The millions of beautiful cafés
The millions of beautiful turns
Their invention of Vespas...
...and the hospitality of their Vespa-Clubs (© Vespa-Club Pordenone)
... and did we mention the food (and the wine, and the ice cream)?
Another masterful post Roland. That certainly sums up Italy for me. Nicely done. The Italian tourist authority should license that post and publicize it far and wide.
ReplyDeleteThanks, David, but I think that your and Sonjas posts sum it up even nicer! Maybe they should hire the three of us for a Vespa vacation brochure?!
DeleteA great way to post about the trip. I think I am hungry, or is it that I want to go riding? Eat then ride?
ReplyDeleteThat's easy: have a ride to an Italian restaurant that is at least one hour away! Best of both worlds!
DeleteOkay, I'm sold! Where do I sign up...
ReplyDeleteHm, maybe this Vespa vacation thing would indeed be a good idea?! Something like an organized Vespa tour with sightseeing and best restaurants?! Sounds tempting!
Deleteonly three words: I AM JEALOUS :-).
ReplyDeleteWonderful pictures, it's been 13 years that we've been there. Italian food is awesome and so is their architecture. I do really like all the old small towns and their cute houses. You must have had an incredible time...
Yes it was a fantastic time, albeit much too short. Can't wait for our next Vespa adventure!
DeleteI could SO live in Italy. And I've only managed to see the northern half so far. That vehicle pic - the beautiful one - is truly awesome. I like the d bushings there, too. Especially the churches. And the mountain lakes. And the fact that there's a whole German region. I could go on and on. Sounds like you had a fabulous trip!
ReplyDeleteI think living in Italy is wonderful as long as you don't have to work there. We met an Italo-Australian restaurant owner who was quite frustrated with Italian bureaucracy. Must be even worse than in Germany! But yes, this country is just awesome, and we were thrilled to see all the small shops where people really buy their stuff, like good cheese and cold meat. Not a lot of big supermarkets around!
DeleteWhat a great post. Sums it all up in a neat little package that just makes me want to be there now!!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Brenda! We could go there again right now! Luckily for us Italy is not THAT far away (6 hours by car to Lago Maggiore), so we can do it on a long weekend. Not that there are many of those left in Germany this year...
DeleteGreat recapitulation of why Italy is Italy.....I miss it.
ReplyDeleteWe do, too! Sniff...
DeleteBelissima! THEIR LANGUAGE!
ReplyDelete...and the best thing was that many of them knew my Vespa by name! They were shouting "Bella!!!!" wherever we rode by! She must be really famous there...
DeleteThey were probably looking at Sonja -;)
Deletewunderschöne Bilder ... da bekomm ich richtig Fernweh ...
