Visitors from the North

Mom, Sis and son had been over for the weekend, and we offered our usual tourist package, well some of it. Actually it was very little since we were mostly busy entertaining the little guy.
It involved strolling through Gengenbach Old Town to find a toilet for him, and then a walk along the river, for a stop over at a playground he had spotted earlier. Mom had to pose quickly for the few sights we got to see, meanwhile the little guy - unattended - got his hands (and his sleeves) wet.
He is attracted to everything watery, and this might even mean volunteering doing the dishes. Really!
Walking along the old town wall.
While the sky looks threatening.
Look, a playground!
And if there wasn't a playground around, but the need to climb aroused the little guy made do with what came across his path.
We watched two cats on a roof discussing the world's problems.
More water! Gimme rocks to throw (please)!
And another playground.
And somebody just made his day: A ride on a tractor!
It had been quite a different program compared to what we usually recommend to people visiting the area. However, we pretty much know all playgrounds in the vicinity now  ;-)

  1. An adorable seafaring lad! Beautiful cats...

Do you feel truly at home now?

    1. Martha, the little guy must certainly have sailor's blood in his veins. As for feeling truly home, well… not really. I am afraid that I could only ever feel completely at home on water's edge with waves crashing, and the smell of the ocean in my nose.

  2. It sounds like an interesting day out with family. It looks like you had some fun wandering and were entertained by the little guy.

The grey sky looks so ominous. Glad it didn't rain on you. Made for a beautiful picture though.

    1. Brandy, we were extremely lucky with the weather, it had rained when they arrived on Friday, as well as to their departure today but Saturday was splendid.

  3. So, did you succeed in running the boy ragged so he'd fall easily asleep or did the search for water continue into the late evening? :)

  4. *lol* that all reminds me on Dominik: finding a toilet, rock-throwing etc ;-), the usual "fun" with kids. But I'm sure, you all had a good time together. To have family around is now easier for you and you will have a wonderful christmas time this year.

    1. Having family closer is some of the upsides of the move. At least we can see the kids more often.

  5. I was with a friend and his little guy(about the same age) at Expo 86 in Vancouver. We turned around and he was gone. Panic time!!!!! While Dad went to look for security I had a sudden brainstorm and I ran the entire length of the Fair back to 'Highway 86' and there he was sitting on 'grandpa's tractor'.

As my friend said," Now I know why it takes two to make one; it takes two to keep track of one."

    1. A scary thought to lose your kid in the crowd… and often enough the little ones will not even have noticed the hysterical panic mode we are in.
