Up to now we didn't pay much attention to our piece of the community garden as the area is shared with six other residents. Every party does their best to make the whole look pretty, and kindly jumps in when others are too busy.
Now after our move is over, we (that would in fact be Roland) also want do contribute to the beauty of the garden, by mowing the lawn, picking the weed and attending to the hedges. We haven't had a garden before so there is much to learn and even more to do, and Roland finds it indeed very relaxing.
relaxing indeed - i see he runs the mower single-handedly :-)
ReplyDeleteand maybe you'll get the gardening bug, too, eventually...
Petra, I am definitely interested in planing a few herbs for use in the kitchen. Basil, mint and rosemary are already there, and parsley and chive are sitting on my kitchen counter.
DeleteActually there is indeed a "good" reason for my mowing single-handedly. This is an electrical lawnmower, and I used my other hand to keep the cable out of the danger zone! Luckily our lawn is really small, otherwise I would have cut the cable a few times!
DeleteI have a lot of opportunities available for Roland to "relax":. ;-)
ReplyDeleteLooks like a wonderful Summer day!
Don't worry, I have always a long honey-do list for him to keep him busy ;-) He needs the exercise...
DeleteStart worrying when Roland cuts the grass or should I say 'lawn' with nail scissors
ReplyDeleteThat sounds scary, the previous tenant of this apartment seemed to have been that kind.
DeleteComrade! Very nice area to work in.
ReplyDeleteMartha, we could use another hand here, especially a pro ;-)
Deletesounds wonderful, so enjoy your community garden ;-).
ReplyDeleteThanks Yvonne, the best part is that the other 'owners' take care for yours and the other way round when necessary.
DeleteYard work relaxing? I can still remember Martha's promise to me when I mentioned how large the yard was before we bought the house we're presently living in: "Don't worry honey, I'll take care of it!".....it didn't quite work out that way though she does do her share. :)
ReplyDeleteA communal garden, interesting concept. Are folks assigned sectors?
I am more along the line 'pour concrete and paint it green'. However, the communal garden is a nice concept when all work together. Our sector is the area around the shack, in total no more than 200 sf give or take.
DeleteSonja, 200 square feet I could definitely enjoy looking after. I might even attempt that golf green look. Regrettably we have way too much. I would need 50 other volunteers to get it down to that scale of hobby. SO we pay a crew of 3 guys who do it in what seems like 15 or twenty minutes a week, with the assistance of lawn mowing equipment that is definitely of the industrial variety. At least the weeds are all cut the same height.
DeleteDavid, there are times when I really appreciate my apartment life ;-)
DeleteDefinitely a nice setting to relax and putter in the garden. Yard work can be relaxing if you are not in a hurry and it is quiet and you can listen to the birds chirping......
ReplyDeleteA small herb garden could be a definite improvement.
ReplyDeleteThis is definitely on our to do list.
DeleteSonja, it all starts with a lawn mower, just wait, next year you'll be harvesting your own vegetables. You shouldn't need to worry about deer eating it all, so there ya go. I wish we could have a vegetable garden but those deer ... I tell ya.
ReplyDeleteWe have stray cats and some small critters but no dear close by to ravage the garden, so we'll see what will grow in this soil.
DeleteI can see garden rage starting soon, literal turf wars with Roland fighting the neighbours over who's turn it is to 'mow d' lawne' while you sit on the balcony and yell at everyone below to "get off my lawn".
ReplyDeleteBut you're in germany so I guess would be "Kooten ze graassenrausenhofengartenlandwirtschaft" ;)
You have been reading too much Mark Twain ;-)
DeleteNo turf wars to expect with us, the polite Canadian in us will hold us back .
